Charles W. Rowland                                                                                                  

Charles Rowland works  in various media, including watercolor, gouache, acrylic  and pen and ink. He has lived in the Columbus, Ohio area since 1970 and currently resides in southern Delaware County

A watercolor artist for over 20 years he is both an active artist and teacher.  His work has won many awards in Ohio area exhibitions and can be found in private and corporate collections throughout the Midwest, West and southern United States. His work is represented by the Jodie McCallum Gallery, Marblehead, Ohio, the Blue Cottage Gallery, Put-in-Bay, Ohio, the Kelly Graphics Gallery in Milan, Ohio, The Art Exchange, Columbus, Ohio and the Artists in Cahoots Gallery in Lakeside, Ohio as well as various exhibitions around the state. He is past President of the Worthington Area Art League, a signature member of the Ohio Watercolor Society, Central Ohio Watercolor Society, and the Worthington, Ohio and Westerville, Ohio Art Leagues.

He was featured in the February/March 2004 article “Master Painters of the USA” in International Artist Magazine.

His work is characterized by strong design and a solid approach to the technical fundamentals of the medium. While avoiding photorealism, his painting style captures the essence and emotion of the subject while involving the viewers’ imagination in its’ interpretation. The choice of subject matter is diverse ranging from seascapes and landscapes to still lifes and portraits. An avid sailor, his work is often based on nautical themes which frequently are taken from his Great Lakes and Chesapeake sailing experiences.
